Red River Gorge

Posted on September 17 2009

The nights are cooling off, and the leaves are starting to change.  The weather is perfect for long mtn bike rides and good multi-pitch routes.  This time of year kicks off one of the best climbing gatherings in the lower 48.  This year the 9th annual Rocktober fest will be held Oct 9th - 11th.  This year will be a sponsor of the event.  The Gorge holds a special place for us here at Mtn Ranks.  The origin of Mtn Ranks was born in the dank humid crags of Kentucky.  Where some of the best rock climbing in the world rises up from the western slope of the Appalachain Mountains.  These sand stone cliffs offer a wide variety of climbing; from steep overhanging test pieces, to classic trad routes like Roadside Attraction.  I remember attending the first few Rocktober Fests.  Watching the sport grow fast over the last 9 years has been amazing.  Even though I came into climbing late, our first trips to the Gorge invovled a handful of people sitting around the fire at Miguels to the point where you can't get into the parking lot.  Come join us for the weekend, party it up, and get your climb on.
